Encouraged
by the tremendous public response
to his books and his series of lectures
on "Shivacharitra", Babasaheb
produced Janata Raja. This involved
intense work stretching over a decade.
A full length historical play depicting
the life and times of Shivaji Maharaj
presented on a 5-tired stage, with
digitally recorded four-track sound,
and over 150 artists, it also employs
horses, elephants, camels and bullock
carts for recreating historical incidents.
Janata Raja has set wholly new standards
for stage presentations. In the past
15 years the play has been performed
in almost all the districts of Maharashtra
and also at Belgaum, Indore, New Delhi
as well as in the U.S. It has been
seen by over 75 lack people to date.
About 64 series totaling 770 shows
have been presented so far. Janata
Raja, while presenting history has
itself created history when on the
4th of July 1997 the members of the
non-resident Maharashtrian community
in USA who were intensively trained,
performed the show.
Based
on the CHARITRA (biography) of Shivaji
Maharaj, this megaplay depicts the
life of CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ
highlighting the role of his mother,
Rashtramata Jeejabai in bringing up
the young and innocent shivba to become
a legendary king... 'JANATA RAJA'.
In over three hours this megaplay
effectively conveys Shivaji Maharaj's
patriotic contribution and at the
same time makes the audience witness
history and events that occurred centuries
ago.
CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ - This
very name charges our blood, awakens
dormant sentiment of nationalism,
reinvigorates our patriotic desires
and compels us to redefine the concepts
of peace and freedom. The evils of
threat to national security and integrity,
terrorism, corruption and the degradation
of moral values have struck us today.
In this hour of uncertainty and disharmony
we need to come together and remind
our follow men of our glorious past.
